Emergencies

Fire

FIRE IN YOUR FLAT:

  • Do not stay to fight a fire unless you can extinguish it immediately.

  • Evacuate everyone in the flat.

  • Close all doors behind you, especially the front door {but do not lock it) and make your way out of the building.

  • Use the stairs, never the lift.

  • If there is a lot of smoke, crawl along the floor where the air will be clearer and cover your nose and mouth.

  • Call 999 (ask for Fire) as soon as you can do so, and then notify security of the situation.

FIRE IN ANOTHER PART OF YOUR BUILDING:

  • The advice from the London Fire Brigade is `stay put’: stay in your home unless heat or smoke is affecting you, or if you feel safer exiting the building and it is safe to do so, leave as described above.

  • Call 999 and ask for Fire Service, and then contact security

  • Close all windows and doors to restrict the spread of smoke.

  • Await further instructions from the London Fire Brigade.

  • If you become affected by heat or smoke, leave your flat as described above.

For information on how to reduce the risk of fire in your flat please see the advice here.

Water emergencies

The on-off levers for four supplies of water (hot, cold, chilled and chilled return) are located in the ceiling panel immediately outside your front door.  The ceiling panel can be opened using a large flat-head screwdriver. Each water service is clearly identified on the pipework.  Hot water is marked 'HWS', with a red band, and cold water is marked 'CWS' with a blue band. These valves are closed when the handle is at 90 degrees to the pipe.

Please contact your concierge or security if the leak is serious or if you are unable yourself to turn off your water supply.

If you plan to be away for extended periods of time (>30 days) it is recommended that you turn off the water supplies to your apartment, in order to minimise the risk of leaks occurring in your absence. Your concierge can assist. More information on the water supply can be found clicking on Water.

Gas emergency

If you smell gas in your flat immediately open a window and call security. The shut-off access to the gas hob supply in flats is usually located by removing the kitchen drawer beneath the gas hob.

Other emergencies

Please contact security or your concierge, using your door-entry phone or by telephone.
